Third Date Hike | 24x48 | acrylic, mixed resin layers
There’s a specific kind of silence that only exists halfway up a mountain with someone you’re just beginning to know.
Third Date Hike captures that fragile middle space between strangers and something more permanent. Inspired by the volcanic silhouettes and ridgelines of Central Oregon, the painting distills familiar peaks into something felt rather than seen. The mountains fracture and reform through thick layers of pain, mirroring the way trust builds in uneven passes.
Warm atmospheric tones press down from above, like late afternoon light stretching time, while cool blues and deep earth tones anchor the terrain below. The horizon doesn’t separate sky from land so much as it dissolves them into each other, suggesting that moment when the outside world fades and all that remains is shared presence.
This is not a portrait of a specific hike, but of the emotional topography that unfolds when you realize you’d walk much farther than you planned just to stay beside someone.
